What Is Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard 100% Whey ?

Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey is the sports nutrition industry’s best-selling whey protein powder that represents the gold standard of protein quality. Award winning for 9 years and counting it uses pure Whey Protein Isolates as the main ingredient further combined with ultra-filtered whey protein concentrate. Each serving contains a solid 24 grams of 100%-whey protein and 5.5 grams of naturally occurring Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAAs). This results in you not having to waste any more money buying extra BCAAs. Furthermore, it only contains 3 grams of carbohydrates and 1 gram of fat per serving to ensure that you can lose weight easily and maintain a shredded physique all year round. The Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey also makes an ideal meal replacement to keep you full until your next meal.

Two Different Types Of Whey Protein Used

Whey Protein Isolate: The fastest digesting protein that quickly targets your muscles for fast results. It’s low in lactose and carbs and is fat free, making it excellent to maintain low body fat levels and with it containing 90% protein its the best you can get.

Whey Protein Concentrate: Whey protein concentrate is rapidly absorbed and contains more branch chain amino acids than any other whey making it optimal for building muscles and helping in recovery.

My Personal Opinion/Review Of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey

This was the first protein powder I ever bought and till this day it is still one of the best whey protein supplements I have ever tried, it tastes optimum nutrition gold standard whey openfantastic with milk/water and I cannot say that about many other whey protein powders. It contains an excellent nutritional make up consisting of a large amount of protein, BCAAs and glutamine per scoop saving me a lot of money so that I wouldn’t have to buy those supplements separately. The mix-ability of  the powder is one of the best since it doesn’t leave any clumps of protein even when I mix it with porridge. Lastly, the extra BCAAs seems to have helped me gain more muscle mass and the extra glutamine has greatly helped with my digestive/immune system. I know that if you get the Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Whey protein you can benefit from it just like I did.

  1. Hi, Andrew I really appreciate this review on the optimum nutrition whey protein. Since I have been looking for a good whey protein supplement for my son for a while now and since this is rated 10/10 included with so many good reviews on amazon I think I have found the right one to buy.

    Thanks, Deanna.

  2. Andrew,

This was a very informative post. I have never been one to use protein powders before, I’ve always been so confused about which ones actually work and which ones are scams. I have a quick question for you though, I am on a plant based diet and I know that whey comes from animals. Do you have an plant-based protein powders that you would recommend for someone who doesn’t consume animal products? What would your advice be?

  3. Very interesting site on when protein. It is very hard to find quality whey protein shakes especially with low calories and no chemicals, so many things we take these days are full of chemicals. So wanted to say thanks for creating this site to provide people like me with the info we need on the healthy choices we need to make. I’ll definitely be back for more reviews 🙂

    1. Yes, it’s very hard nowadays to find things without chemicals even the fruits and vegetables we eat are made by chemicals 🙁

  4. Hi Andrew – I’ve tried LOADS of different brands of whey protein but never Optimum Nutrition. Which flavour would you recommend? I mainly use it in porridge or baking (not a massive fan of shakes – I’d rather eat my calories than drink it haha!)

    1. Hmmm I would recommend either the vanilla ice cream or double rich chocolate flavour. Those two are the best tasting ones I have tried so far for optimum nutrition.

  5. Hi there. I have been looking at whey protein for a while now. About 1 year ago I decided to get more into shape. I have been doing Slim Fast and exercising everyday. I have lost around 65 lbs. so far. I want to lose about 10 more and start lifting weights. Does this stuff really work as good as they say? Just don’t want to buy it if what I am doing is ok. I guess what I am asking will it speed up the process a little?

    1. Hey Jeremy, It is important to have a high protein intake when trying to lose weight because it will help you keep most of your muscle mass. Since when you lose weight you lose both fat and muscle tissue. If having whey protein can help you keep your protein intake high then it will definitely speed up your process of losing those last 10 pounds.
