  1. I love how you addressed the main issue with supplementation right from the start. That it is not a neccessity, it is only a perfomance enhancers.

    I see a lot of beginners (and me at one point) thinking they need to start taking protein shakes as soon as they start training without considering diet or rest.

    To be fair this is usually because of peer pressure (kind of), but it is a problem none the less. They are very unlikely to see results and if they do it will be minor, usually with a side effect like an increase in fat because of too much protien intake.

    Thanks for sharing. I definitely want to maintain the muscles I have because when we lose muscle then we can start getting aches and pains eventually.

    However, I fall short on my protein because honestly I don’t like eating animal protein. I pretty much have to force myself to eat it. So I use a protein powder and get my proteins from plants mostly.

    1. With plant protein many times the protein isn’t complete (it doesn’t contain all 20 amino acids required by your body) so watch out for that.

  3. Hi there, interesting article. I don’t eat protein supplements for muscle growth as I believe one can get enough protein from food. That being said, I have personally supplemented with creatine and it makes a huge difference when I’m building muscle mass, which is definitely not easy for a female body builder !

  4. I’ve been into health and fitness for years now and as a competitive athlete, I can say you’re spot on. Supplements will never be able to touch whole foods. Most of my protein is from eating chicken, steak and eggs. However I still have a protein shake right after a good lifting session or HIIT training.
